Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about visiting Glastonbury Tech Connect.

It is completely natural to have a few questions before visiting us for the first time. Below are answers to the questions we get asked most often about how our Digital Cafés work.

Common Questions

Do I need to book an appointment for the Digital Cafés?

No, our weekly sessions are completely open to everyone. You can walk in anytime during session hours. Mondays at St John's Church (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM) or Wednesdays at the Pilgrim Reception Centre (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM).

Is it really free?

Our digital Cafés are free. There are no hidden charges, and you do not need to pay for the support or the refreshments. We do accept donations, but we don't ask for money from the people we help. We are a community-led initiative run by friendly volunteers to help local residents gain confidence online.

*Note: We may introduce paid courses which will be seperate from the Digital Cafés.

What kinds of devices can I bring?

You can bring any portable device you need help with. This includes Apple or Android smartphones, iPads, Android tablets, Kindle e-readers, and Windows or Mac laptops. Just remember to bring your charging cable and any relevant passwords along with you.

My device is very old. Can you still help me?

Absolutely. We see devices of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Whether your laptop takes ten minutes to turn on or your phone is an older model, we will do our absolute best to help you clean it up, speed it up, or simply make it easier for you to use.

Will you look at my private data or passwords?

Your privacy and security are our top priorities. Our volunteers are here to guide you, not to do it for you. If you need to type in a password, PIN code, or log into a secure service like online banking or an NHS app, our volunteers will look away or step back while you do it. We will never ask you to share or write down your private passwords.

I am an absolute beginner and know nothing about computers. Is this group right for me?

You are exactly who we set this up for. There are absolutely no silly questions at our Digital Cafés. We don't mind starting from scratch, whether that means learning how to turn a device on, adjusting screen brightness, or figuring out touchscreens.

Can you fix broken hardware or cracked screens?

We don't repair devices, we specialize in software support, device settings, navigation, and digital confidence. Unfortunately, we cannot repair physically broken hardware or replace cracked screens. However, we can often give you honest advice on whether a faulty device is worth repairing professionally.

*Note: We can sometimes replace the clock battery, memory chips or hard drive, but we don't provide spares ourselves and can't gaurantee this kind of work.
